  • In 2010-11, NSW produced a record 205 million tonnes (Mt) of raw coal, yielding 157Mt of saleable coal.

  • 81% of the total value of mineral production for NSW is derived from thermal and coking coal.

  • 89% of total electricity needs in NSW are met with locally mined thermal coal.

  • In 2010-11, Asia continued to be the major market for NSW coal, with major customers being Japan, Republic of Korea, Taiwan and China

  • In 2010-11, gold produced in NSW was valued at $1.3 billion

  • In 2010-11, copper produced in NSW was valued at $1.4 billion

  • In 2010-11, NSW lead production was valued at $184 million

  • NSW silver production in 2010-11 was valued at $59 million

  • In 2010-11, NSW zinc production was valued at $239 million

  • Australia holds the world’s largest known resources of rutile (50%) and zircon (45%).

  • In 2008-09, NSW produced 2.06 Mt of clay.
