Safety is of paramount importance to the minerals industry and Australia is a leader in safety research and technologies. The area of safety is one that is constantly improving and evolving to ensure the protection and wellbeing of the people who are involved in all facets of the industry.

Case Study: Virtual Reality Technology Saves Lives

One of the most exciting innovations recently developed in NSW is Coal Services Pty Ltd’s Virtual Reality Training technology which encompasses state of the art software and training theatres designed to improve safety outcomes for new and experienced miners. The technology can also be adapted for other hazardous industries such as construction.

The virtual training theatre allows people to experience and respond to simulated scenarios in a safe environment, as a way of learning how to handle potential hazards in a real life work environment.

This world-best-practice training facility is now located at four NSW Mines Rescue Stations; Newcastle, Wollongong, Lithgow and Singleton.

The Mine Safety Technology Centre in the Hunter Valley also provides many services related to health and safety in the mining industry.
