Careers In Mining

female miner

The mining industry offers diverse opportunities for professionals and skilled tradespeople.  Miners are the highest paid workers in NSW, with average weekly earnings in May 2009 of $2,013, over $500 more than the second highest average wages earned in the electricity, gas and water supply sector.

A career in mining is not just about working in a mine.  Consider jobs as diverse as an environmental scientist, a surveyor, electrician, truck driver, computer technician, receptionist or geologist.  A career in mining not only provides financial rewards, but also great job satisfaction being part of a progressive industry.

The NSW minerals industry generates about 310,000 direct and indirect jobs in NSW.  Many communities have generations of families involved in mining who are able to generate many a tale about grandfathers, fathers and now sons and daughters who work in and for the industry.

For more comprehensive information about careers in the minerals industry, including job vacancies, traineeship and apprenticeship opportunities, and graduate and scholarship programs, please visit the Mining Careers website.
