The Minerals Education Bursary Scheme (MEBS) is run by NSWMC with support and active participation by its member companies. MEBS is an integral part of the mining industry’s commitment to the community and to the education of Australian youth.
MEBS seeks to foster students’ interest in the minerals industry as a potential career path through a series of activities and direct contact with the industry.
MEBS supports and encourages eligible students who have a genuine interest in the minerals industry through the provision of a financial sponsorship. This ranges from $500 for Year 11 students to $1000 for Year 12 students. If a bursary student decides to pursue designated minerals related studies at university, they are then eligible for $2000 in their first year of tertiary education. A student can be sponsored for up to three years, depending on the fulfilment of certain criteria.
Students who participate in MEBS are endowed with a unique opportunity to gain valuable insight and access to the mining industry. MEBS activities include being assigned a mentor from the sponsoring company, attending events and open days, and work experience opportunities.
