Summary: The ABM Rib Protection System was developed in response to the risk posed to operators from ribs during the development mining process. The ABM Rib Protection System is a three-tiered safety system incorporating: inbye Polly rib protectors; third stage rib bolters; and outbye metal rib protection with hydraulic extensions. This system allows for the operation of any Underground Miner with rib protectors, improving the safety and wellbeing of operators. There has been a demonstrable risk reduction in the number of injuries since the implementation of this system at Mandalong Mine.
