Summary: Cash for Fat is a voluntary weight loss program involving employees at Bulga Coal. $10 is donated to charity for every kilo lost, or if the employee is already in a healthy weight range, $25 is donated for maintaining it as such. Concurrently, a series of healthy living education classes is organised and a gym program provided to all employees. The initial Cash for Fat program at Bulga Coal had an 80% workforce participation rate with teams based on workplace activities. The initiative of Cash for Fat is in donating the money to charity rather than being based on an individual monetary gain, which instills community spirit in the workforce.
