Electro-Hydraulic Boot End Remote Control

Company: Integra Coal – Underground Operations

Summary: Integra and Bucyrus developed the Electro-Hydraulic Boot End Remote Control to minimise the risk facing operators. The Boot End is a human operated component of a longwall face where the coal is directed from a loader onto a conveyor. The operator is required to reposition the equipment as needed, exposing the operator to an array of risks including: crush injuries; high pressure fluid injection; and poor ergonomics. The use of a remote control increases the distance between the operator and the Boot End, thereby reducing the risk to the operator of the above hazards.

Award Status: Finalist, 2009 OHS Innovation Awards
