Fatigue Management Observation Record

Company: Newcrest Mining – Cadia Valley Operations

Summary: Fatigue is recognised as resulting in poor performance and an increased risk of errors and incidents, particularly in the workplace. A system to quantitatively assess fatigue and apply appropriate controls was developed in response to the challenge of fatigue management at Cadia Valley Operations. An Extended Working Hours standard was implemented which details the requirements for managing extended working hours as well as setting upper limits which must be complied with. The standard includes a Fatigue Management Observation Record which assesses levels of fatigue related risk.

Award Status: Finalist, 2009 OHS Innovation Awards
