Company: Rio Tinto Coal Australia – Coal and Allied
Summary: Fire Water is a fire suppression system on diesel/hydraulic and diesel/electric machines which provides the ability to supply foam/water via a machines existing suppression system plumbing. This innovation provides an opportunity to suppress a fire in the event that an on-board suppression system fails to operate or exhausts itself without extinguishing a fire. The Fire Water system involves two spring-loaded sealed containers, each holding standard fire-fighting hoses which are released when the fire suppression system is activated. This allows for the hoses to be connected to a water cart or fire tender to fight the fire using the existing fire suppression system pipe work and spray nozzles.
