Injury Management Improvement at Northparkes Mines

Company: Rio Tinto – Northparkes Mines

Summary: An ineffective injury management and return-to-work practice had been identified as an issue at Northparkes Mines. In response, an injury management model was implemented incorporating extensive consultation with stakeholders. A core component of the model is the injury management pack which is a step-by-step guide through the injury management process. The pack is comprised of information for the First Aider, the injured worker, the GP and the Supervisor. There has been a reduction in medical treatment and lost time injuries at Northparkes Mines which correlates with the implementation of this new system.
