Why Join the NSWMC?

To achieve its objectives the NSWMC works closely with government and other stakeholders. The Council's ability to make an effective contribution relies on both the capacity of its secretariat and the active support and involvement of member companies. Membership enables companies to influence the direction and approach of the industry on key issues as well as lending weight to the positions it advocates.

Member companies are eligible to sit on NSWMC key committees and play an active role in the policy development of the organisation. Through the committee structure member companies have direct impact on policy and programme development. Through the regular circulation of documents and reports, committee membership also helps member companies stay abreast of the latest developments in key policy areas. The peak policy committee is the Executive Committee. Other major committees include the Coal Committee, Environment Committee, the Exploration and Resource Access Committee and the Occupational Health and Safety Committee.

Member companies are also kept up to date with a regular newsletter as well as specific communications on current issues. The NSWMC organises regular conferences, workshops, seminars and member briefings to engage and inform the broader membership.

The NSWMC maintains close working relations with NSW and Australian Government ministers, other members of Parliament and the senior executives of various departments. These relationships are essential to an effective working relationship with government and can assist member companies gain access to relevant government representatives when dealing with their own specific issues.
