NSWMC Rehabilitation by Design Practice Notes
Rehabilitation is an integral component of mine site operations from exploration through to mine closure. It is critical to sustainable mining and the industry's social licence to operate. These Practice Notes have been prepared to assist the NSW minerals industry to continually improve mine site rehabilitation. The Practice Notes provide practical steps to create good rehabilitation outcomes.

The Practice Notes distil a range of expert perspectives from academia, government, consultants, contractors and industry professionals. In some cases they suggest 'what not to do' as well as 'what to do', in a practical, problem solving approach to the most critical rehabilitation issues.

Australia's Export Coal Industry
This publication presents an overview of the Australian coal industry, emphasising the advantages of using Australian coal and outlining government policies, both Commonwealth and State, which impact on coal mine development, mine ownership and coal exports.
Also provided is information on the operations and products of each producer supplying coal and coke to export markets with contact details for each. The emphasis is on black coal, but information on coal briquettes and coke is also given. Basic information on the rail network used for the haulage of export coal and on each of the bulk coal loading terminals is also included.

Case Studies in Sustainable Development in the Coal Industry
The Coal Industry Advisory Board (CIAB) is a group of high-level executives from coal-related
industrial enterprises, established by the International Energy Agency (IEA) in July 1979 to provide
advice to the IEA on a wide range of issues relating to coal. The CIAB currently has 40 members
from 15 countries, contributing valuable experience in the fields of coal production, electricity
generation and other aspects of coal use, trading and transportation.

Community Engagement Handbook, Towards Stronger Community Relationships
This handbook has been prepared to assist the NSW mining and extractive industries develop an effective working relationship with the community which allows issues that arise during the development and operation of projects to be addressed and resolved in a positive way. The handbook recognises that community consultation is an on-going process, from the time of project inception through to commissioning, operation and de-commissioning. The handbook is endorsed by the Association of Mining Related Councils.
The handbook has a practical emphasis, containing many suggestions about when different forms of consultation are appropriate and how they may be implemented, it also has series of tools that can be used by the practitioner

Contractor Safety Guides
The NSW Minerals Council has developed a resource guide designed to assist principals (and their contractor supervisors) as well as contractors in systematically managing contractor safety and health in the workplace. This edition combines seven earlier guidelines into one for ease of reference, as well as taking advantage of recent experiences. It has also been updated in response to 2006 NSW legislation changes.

The Contribution of the Minerals Industry to the NSW Economy
The Minerals Ministerial Advisory Council has embarked on a program of work to enhance the sustainability of the NSW minerals industry. In this report, ACIL Tasman describes the current and projected contribution of the minerals industry to the NSW economy. The report also identifies the community and regulatory environment within which the industry operates ― an environment that presents challenges and risk to a sustainable future.

Guidelines for Environmentally Responsible Mineral Exploration in NSW
Environmentally responsible mineral exploration is an important goal to the mineral industry in New South Wales.
These guidelines have been developed to provide mineral exploration companies in New South Wales with an overview of the environmental factors that need to be considered when planning, conducting, rehabilitating, monitoring and reporting upon their activies.
These guidelines have been prepared to assist mineral exploration companies in their search for metals, coal and industrial minerals. They do not cover petroleum exploration, nor do they refer to geological reporting requirements of the Department of Mineral Resources, or health and safety issues. The Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association Ltd has produced a Code of Environmental Practice that deals with petroleum exploration.
This publication is currently in the process of being revised.
