Enduring Value

Enduring Value- the Australian Industry Framework for Sustainable Development and the accompanying Guidance for Implementation  give practical effect to the Australian minerals industry’s commitment to the International Principles for Sustainable Development.

Enduring Value aligns sustainable development to extend the previous Australian Minerals Industry Code for Environmental Management in recognition that, like environmental management, the implementation of sustainable development requires us to think about the relationships in complex systems; recognise how their effects are played out over many years and great distances; and act practically to help minerals industry managers implement best practice at the site level.

Enduring Value particularly seeks to translate the Principles of Sustainable Development into practices that ensure the industry in Australia operates in tune with the expectations of the community and maximises the long term benefits to society of effective natural resources management. To this end, the Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) has embeddedEnduring Value in its industry vision and mission statements. The MCA is also developing a range of tools, guidelines and extension activities such as training courses to enhance industry capacity in social and environmental competencies and improve performance on the ground.
