NSW Mining is continuing its support for new talent in Australian film as ‘Strategic Partner’ for the first Cockatoo Island Film Festival in Sydney and the 6th annual Dungog Film Festival.
The exciting new Cockatoo Island Film Festival will be held from 24-28 October 2012. Created by the founders of the award-winning Dungog Film Festival, the event will take place across 20 venues in the heart of Sydney Harbour. The Festival will present a thrilling program of Australian content and a World Cinema sidebar featuring new works.
With a particular focus on regional NSW and Indigenous skills development, NSW Mining is proud to be the sponsor of the Festival’s skills development program.

The program includes the inaugural NSW Mining Young Indigenous Filmmaker Fellowship – a prize for an Indigenous person under 34 years to produce a documentary on their unique views as an Indigenous Australian. Plus students from Dubbo will get to make a documentary about their town with seasoned film makers, which will be screened at the Cockatoo Island Film Festival as part of the NSW Mining Regional Schools Initiative.

We’ve been a long term supporter of the Dungog Film Festival, which was named Best Film Festival at the 2011 Inside Film Awards. The 6th Dungog Film Festival will kick off on 29 June 2012.
Supporting and promoting Australian culture in regional NSW is vital to the NSW mining industry and the Dungog Film Festival is part of our commitment to supporting our mining regions.
