The Careers Dinners programme again proved to be a popular feature of the 2008 Education calendar. As the comments below show, students and teachers alike came away from the dinners impressed with what the industry has to offer.
“Opened up opportunities I hadn’t seen and explored avenues I had only briefly thought about.”
– Student at Parkes dinner
“This is a wonderful way to introduce students to the industry and allow them to see what different careers involve”
– Teacher at Orange dinner
“Good speakers with lots of relevant information; mining as a career path seems more appealing after hearing from the
mine. They’re great, honest and down to earth (no pun intended)”
– Student at Orange dinner
“Meeting people in the real job is great”
– Student at Wollongong dinner
"I'm sure the evening managed to convince many of our students that Mining holds favourable prospects for their futures"
- Teacher at Wollongong dinner
The dinners are targeted at Year 10-12 students, their science and maths teachers and careers advisors and are designed to increase enrolments in minerals related tertiary courses.
The evening provides the opportunity to hear first-hand, undergraduates and graduates from mining related courses discuss how their chosen career pathways related to science subjects at school. Our undergraduate and graduate speakers will also share their industry experiences and will be able to answer questions throughout the evening.
Also present are staff from University of Wollongong and University of NSW, other Universities and local mining member companies.
Young undergraduates from mining engineering and geoscience courses join with young professionals from the industry to explain the variety and opportunities presented by careers within the minerals industry both in NSW and globally.
The 2009 Careers Dinner Schedule will be available soon.
