The NSW minerals industry is a major participant in ACARP’s COAL21 initative, a collaborative partnership between Federal and State governments, the coal and electricity generation industries and the research community.
An environmental initiative of Australia's black coal producer, COAL21 aims to fully realise the potential of advanced technologies to reduce or eliminate greenhouse gas emissions associated with the use of coal. The program also explores coal's role as a primary source of hydrogen to power the hydrogen-based economy of the future.
The COAL21 Action Plan is a broad roadmap for short, medium and long term actions including the development of clean coal technology, more efficient technologies in energy transformation, and carbon capture and storage.
Coal: Primarily a mixture of Carbon and
Hydrogen atoms - with very small amounts
of Sulphur (bound with Carbon or Iron)
and other elements.
