14 June 2006: Boral Resources’ Emu Plains (NSW) quarry and roof tile plant has cut water consumption by 84% per tonne of product. Measures implemented by Boral include using recycled on-site dam and pond water for equipment washdown and bore water for wheel washing, installing sub-meters to pinpoint areas of greatest water use across the site, and capturing rooftop and roadside run-off for reuse. Water use has fallen from 6.6 litres per tonne in 2004 to 1.2 litres per tonne in Dec 2005. The site processes up to 3.8m tonnes of sand and river gravel each year. Boral is a member of Sydney Water’s Every Drop Counts program, which is a finalist in the 2006 Banksia environmental awards.
9 June 2006: The largest airborne survey ever undertaken in NSW (as part of Exploration NSW) has concluded and data from the project is now available for industry use.
