To assist mining companies in their community engagement activities, the NSW Minerals Council has developed the NSW Minerals Council Community Engagement Handbook Towards Stronger Community Relationships. The Federal Ministerial Council for Mineral and Petroleum Resources has also produced Principles for Engagement with Communities and Stakeholders.
The Australian Centre for Minerals Extension and Research (ACMER) runs a training course ‘Working with Communities’ to increase the skills of practitioners working in this area, while research into community engagement strategies is being undertaken by the University of Queensland and the Australian Coal Association Research Programme (ACARP).
