Central West Region
Mineral plenty
The mineral-rich geological unit known as the Lachlan Fold Belt stretches through the South and Central West of NSW as far as Cobar, in the Far West region. The Fold is bordered to the east by the Western Coalfields, home of Delta Electricity’s  Wallerawang and Mount Piper Power Stations.

Prospectors have been searching for gold in the central west since the Bathurst Rush of 1851. Mining declined in the early 1990s but thanks to investment in exploration spurred by new extraction technologies, the region today is yielding a revitallised harvest of gold, copper and other minerals, with more to come.
