Safer mining
Safety is our priority

The NSW minerals industry is committed to zero injury mining in NSW.

The rate of workplace injuries and fatalities in the NSW minerals industry has been steadily falling since the mid 1980s as a result of significant contributions from all major stakeholders: mining companies; their contractors and suppliers; trade unions; governments; industry associations; and most of all the concerted efforts of those working in the mines themselves.

Managing and controlling the risks associated with the exploration, extraction, processing and transport of minerals is a continuing challenge for the minerals industry. It requires comprehensive, disciplined management systems and commitment by all stakeholders.

While significant gains in occupational health and safety performance have been achieved, a renewed and ongoing commitment is the necessary basis for further improvements to meet community and industry expectations.

Member companies of the New South Wales Minerals Council are committed to achieving excellence in OHS management and share the following safety and health vision and beliefs.
