Making it happen

The NSW minerals industry has established a number of initiatives to deliver safer mining. These include:

• promoting the development of more effective mine health and safety legislation and regulations, including the implementation of the Wran Mine Safety Review recommendations released in April 2005
• identifying and promoting best practice in health and safety management systems and the control of specific hazards
• recognising and promoting excellence in health and safety management, including the industry’s annual safety innovations awards
• developing a culture of safety leadership in the industry and supporting initiatives which foster genuine ownership of safety management throughout each company
• promoting discussion, debate and dialogue between all stakeholders through the NSWMC annual OHS Conference and focussed industry workshops.
